About the Role
The Mid-to-Senior Process Engineer will provide hands-on process engineering support for a new nuclear fuel facility. This role involves developing and checking calculations, updating P&IDs, preparing equipment specifications, reviewing vendor documents, and supporting process design coordination for nuclear, chemical, DOE, or high-hazard facility systems. The position requires a practical process engineer who can collaborate with senior technical leads, designers, vendors, and cross-discipline teams to advance design deliverables while maintaining safety, quality, technical accuracy, and configuration control.
Responsibilities
- Develop process calculations, hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing, heat and material balances, datasheets, technical evaluations, and supporting design documentation.
- Prepare and update PFDs, P&IDs, process design criteria, line lists, equipment lists, and process system descriptions.
- Support preparation of equipment specifications and procurement packages for process equipment, piping components, valves, heat exchangers, vessels, pumps, and related systems.
- Coordinate with vendors to review submittals, resolve technical comments, evaluate deviations, and support procurement decisions.
- Participate in design reviews, hazard reviews, operability reviews, constructability reviews, and commissioning planning.
- Coordinate process interfaces with piping, I&C, mechanical, HVAC, electrical, safety basis, radiological controls, criticality safety, quality, construction, and operations teams.
- Provide field and startup support for issue resolution, walkdowns, test planning, troubleshooting, and turnover activities.
- Maintain engineering records, configuration control, calculation quality, and clear communication with technical leads.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of process engineering experience supporting nuclear, DOE, chemical, high-hazard, fuel cycle, manufacturing, or highly regulated industrial facilities.
- Hands-on experience with calculations, P&IDs, equipment specifications, datasheets, technical evaluations, and vendor coordination.
- Ability to interpret process requirements, drawings, specifications, vendor data, design criteria, and field conditions.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, equipment sizing, process safety concepts, process controls interfaces, and regulated facility design practices.
- Strong technical writing, analytical, communication, and cross-discipline coordination skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required site access, training, and security clearances.
- Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with nuclear fuel facilities, uranium processing, chemical processing, hot cells, gloveboxes, GTS, or high-temperature process systems.
- Experience supporting commissioning, startup, field engineering, or operational readiness.
- Engineer-in-Training certification, Professional Engineer license, or progress toward licensure.
