About the role

The Boise, Idaho office is seeking a mid-level Structural Engineer to support our engineering group. This role focuses on the design of structures and facilities within our dam engineering group, including steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design. Example projects include fish hatcheries, surface water intakes, pump stations, dams, pipelines, and fabricated gates and valves. Clients include state and federal agencies, private power producers, utilities, and conservation groups.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering activities throughout all phases of a project lifecycle, including investigation, evaluation, analysis, design, and construction services.
  • Conduct structural analysis and prepare detailed design calculations.
  • Perform quality control reviews of other team members’ work.
  • Prepare and review construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Develop structural models using finite element modeling programs (e.g., SAP2000).
  • Apply building codes (ASCE 7, ACI 318, ACI 350, Steel Design Manual, IBC) for loads, analysis, and requirements.
  • Prepare responses to contractor submittals and questions during construction.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other design disciplines.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Work as a team member within the Boise office and across other Schnabel offices to balance workload.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a structural engineering focus from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience with proficiency in concrete and steel design, including hydraulic structures, industrial buildings, and heavy civil structures.
  • Ability to manage simultaneous tasks and multi-discipline projects.
  • PE licensed or ability to become licensed within a year of hiring.
  • Experience with structural analysis and finite element modeling programs (e.g., SAP2000).
  • Experience preparing and reviewing construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Experience working with owners and contractors during construction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to high professional performance.
  • Ability to pass a background check (criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check) and pre-employment screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Bluebeam, Mathcad, SAP2000, AutoCAD, and Revit.
  • Proficiency in wood and masonry design.
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) or willingness to pursue SE licensure.
  • Consulting engineering experience.
  • Experience with dams, fish facilities, gate design, intakes, or pump stations.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $73,000 to $110,000, varying based on geographic location and other factors.
