About the Role

As a member of our Commercial Real Estate Practice, you will work closely with clients and colleagues on a broad range of transactions, including acquisition, leasing, development, financing, and zoning and land use matters. You will have immediate opportunities for client contact and meaningful responsibility, including involvement in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating sale and purchase agreements, commercial leases, development-related agreements and loan documents, and handling related diligence efforts such as title and survey reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on land use, zoning, and entitlement matters under Virginia law and local ordinances.
  • Prepare and pursue applications for rezonings, conditional use permits, special exceptions, variances, proffers, and other land use approvals.
  • Represent clients before planning commissions, boards of supervisors, zoning appeals, and related governmental entities.
  • Conduct acquisition, development, and land use due diligence for commercial real estate transactions, including site planning, subdivision, and development approval matters.
  • Negotiate with local government staff, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with engineers, planners, traffic consultants, environmental specialists, and other technical experts in land use matters.

Requirements

  • Admission to practice in Virginia.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities and a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience advising clients on land use, zoning, and entitlement matters.
  • Background preparing and pursuing applications for rezonings, conditional use permits, special exceptions, variances, proffers, and other land use approvals.
  • Experience representing clients before planning commissions, boards of supervisors, zoning appeals, and related governmental entities.
  • Ability to conduct acquisition, development, and land use due diligence for commercial real estate transactions.
  • Background negotiating with local government staff, elected officials, and community stakeholders.
