About the role

Thunderyard is seeking a mid-level Configuration Manager to support a federal customer by establishing and maintaining enterprise Configuration Management (CM) and Change Management processes across complex software development and infrastructure environments. This role will oversee governance, release management, and configuration control while partnering with development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and operations teams to ensure software and infrastructure changes are delivered efficiently, securely, and in compliance with organizational standards.

The ideal candidate has experience leading Configuration Management initiatives in Agile and DevOps environments, administering governance boards, and ensuring end-to-end traceability throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

This position requires an active Public Trust clearance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Configuration Management and Change Management activities across multiple software development and infrastructure projects.
  • Establish, maintain, and improve Configuration Management processes, standards, and governance.
  • Oversee source code management practices, including branching strategies, merge processes, release tagging, version control, and code promotion workflows.
  • Administer Change Management processes, including Requests for Change (RFCs), change approvals, and production release coordination.
  • Facilitate governance meetings such as Change Control Boards (CCBs), Architecture Review Boards, and other technical governance forums.
  • Maintain end-to-end traceability across SDLC artifacts, including requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, and production releases.
  • Identify and manage cross-team configuration dependencies, integration points, and release risks.
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and operations teams to ensure successful software delivery.
  • Support and enhance DevOps pipelines utilizing modern automation and CI/CD practices.
  • Administer and support ServiceNow Software Asset Management processes and related governance activities.
  • Develop Configuration Management documentation, release procedures, policies, metrics, and reporting.
  • Monitor compliance with organizational Configuration Management and Change Management standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience supporting Configuration Management, Release Management, DevOps, or Change Management initiatives.
  • Active Public Trust clearance is required.
  • Experience working with DevOps tools and methodologies, including GitLab, GitHub, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or similar technologies.
  • Experience managing Configuration Management processes, including branching strategies, merge practices, release tagging, version control, and code promotion.
  • Experience administering enterprise Change Management processes, including Requests for Change (RFCs) and change approvals.
  • Experience facilitating governance bodies such as Change Control Boards (CCBs), Architecture Working Groups, or similar technical review forums.
  • Experience maintaining traceability across SDLC artifacts from requirements through deployment.
  • Experience identifying and managing configuration dependencies across multiple development teams.
  • Experience administering or supporting ServiceNow Software Asset Management.
  • Strong understanding of Agile software development methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and SDLC best practices.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal civilian agencies.
  • ITIL Foundation or higher certification.
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe, or other Agile certification.
  • Experience supporting enterprise DevSecOps or cloud modernization initiatives.
  • Experience working in Microsoft Azure or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and automated deployment pipelines.

Compensation

This role is budgeted at an annual salary of $90,000-$110,000, plus benefits including medical, dental, vision coverage, PTO, and partial 401(k) match.
