Job Description

Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board. Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses. Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for part-time Microsoft Office Suite (MOS) Adjunct Faculty in the School of Business, Technology, and Trades (BTT).

Responsibilities

  • Teach college-level courses in computer applications using MOS 2019/365 with Windows 10.
  • Classes meet in-person on the main Virginia Western campus, as well as hybrid or distance learning/online courses.
  • Maintain currency in teaching disciplines and trends in community college education.
  • Be an active participant in departmental communication.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in computer science, information systems technology, business administration or business information technology or a Masters degree with 18 graduate semester hours in computer science, information systems or business information technology or business administration.
  • Two years occupational experience in positions using Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience writing syllabi and exams.
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Considerations

  • MOS certifications from 2010 or after at Core level in Access, Excel, PowerPoint and Word preferred.
  • Experience using technology in the classroom and teaching online.
  • Experience teaching in a community college setting.
