Salary Range: $150,000–$185,000 Annually
About the role
We are seeking a seasoned Microservices Architect to lead the design and evolution of large-scale microservices ecosystems built on modern container platforms and cloud-native technology stacks. The role requires deep expertise in service decomposition, domain-driven design, distributed data management, and runtime concerns such as resilience, observability, and security at scale. The ideal candidate brings hands-on architectural leadership across complex transformations, with a clear point of view on when microservices are the right answer, how to evolve them safely, and how to keep the resulting estate maintainable over the long term.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and evolution of large-scale microservices ecosystems
- Apply expertise in service decomposition, domain-driven design, and distributed systems patterns
- Ensure resilience, observability, and security at scale in microservices architectures
- Provide architectural leadership across complex transformations
- Guide decisions on microservices adoption, evolution, and long-term maintainability
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
- Eight or more years of software engineering experience, with several years in architecture roles
- Deep expertise in microservices design, domain-driven design, and distributed systems patterns
- Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and service mesh technologies
- Proficiency in at least one major backend language such as Java, Go, or C#
- Strong understanding of API design, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous messaging
- Experience operating high-traffic, latency-sensitive systems in production
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms and managed services across at least one major provider
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead architecture initiatives spanning multiple teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with platform engineering and internal developer platform construction
- Familiarity with Istio, Linkerd, Envoy, or comparable service mesh technologies
- Exposure to FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization at scale
- Public speaking, open-source contributions, or published technical writing
- Experience in regulated industries with strict compliance requirements
