About the role
The Department of Pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine is seeking a Microbiology Technician to support innovative research aimed at developing treatments for antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. This role collaborates with junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students, focusing on enhancing the immune system's response to pathogens.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the evaluation of novel anti-infective therapies that stimulate immune cell function.
- Conducts experiments involving human tissue culture and mouse models of bacterial infection and anti-infective therapy.
- Performs molecular genetics, microbiology, cell biology, and immunological analyses.
- Manages laboratory tasks such as ordering supplies, maintaining databases, and overseeing student lab assistants.
- Assists in preparing detailed and accurate scientific reports.
Requirements
- Theoretical knowledge of biochemistry and/or microbiology.
- Experience in preparing scientific reagents.
- Knowledge and experience with laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, bioguard hoods, microscopes, pipeters, autoclaves, balances, incubators.
- General laboratory skills and safety training.
- Ability to evaluate and communicate scientific data.
- Ability to maintain data accurately and perform mathematical computations.
- Basic computer skills including word processing and graphics applications.
- Knowledge of sterile techniques for bacterial and cell culture.
- Understanding of DNA, RNA, and protein analysis, PCR, and ELISA.
- Ability to prepare detailed and accurate scientific reports.
- Knowledge/experience to establish and work with lung organoids.
- Knowledge of Murine model of infection (Pneumonia, bacteremia, skin and UTI).
- Experience with monoclonal antibody development pipeline.
- Knowledge of immunological profiling using flow cytometry.
- Experience with protein purification and HPLC analysis.
