Microbiology Technician

About the role
We are looking for a Microbiology Technician in Salida, CA. Your mission will be to prepare samples for processing and maintain documentation to facilitate testing procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending
- Write identification onto plates to track client and sample numbers
- Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process
- Pour agar into plates or tubes to begin the growth process
- Collect plates and place them in the incubator for the specified time and temperature
- Prepare media and broth for pathogen testing as required
- Ensure media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence
- Maintain knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis
- Read plates and tubes to determine the number of organisms in the sample
- Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes
- Perform housekeeping duties, keeping work areas and equipment clean and sanitized
- Participate in cleaning schedules and maintain retain samples as required
- Adhere to all safety policies
- Support laboratory management in implementing, maintaining, and improving the management system
- Perform other related tasks as needed
Requirements
- High School Diploma and 1+ year of relevant work experience
- Basic knowledge of science to accurately perform testing procedures
- Basic knowledge of personal computers for data entry
- Basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies
- Planning skills to maintain supplies and ensure timely analysis completion
Skills
- Time management and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Attention to detail
- Analytical skills for completing analysis procedures
- General knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Physical dexterity for manipulating samples
Work Environment
The role is in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials may occur. Safety equipment such as gloves, laboratory coat, and eyeglasses may be required. Daily use of an autoclave is expected. The role involves:
- Continuous lifting of materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Extended time spent in a standing position
- Ability to detect slight variations in shades of colors
Pay
$20.00 - $21.00 per hour
