Full-time position (40 hours/week) on the day shift at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD.

About the role

Perform routine and specialized procedures, and review and approve clinical test results for use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in accordance with established protocol for a laboratory performing high-complexity procedures as defined by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988.

This supervisory role functions within the management structure of the Medical Laboratory and is responsible for the operational continuity of the Microbiology laboratory and other laboratory areas providing Microbiology services. Responsibilities include:

  • Implementation and maintenance of the Microbiology laboratory quality management program, including quality assurance, quality control, review of daily test results, maintenance schedules and records, document development and control, and adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Review, preliminary counseling, and participation in staff evaluations with the department manager.
  • Acting as a resource person to resolve technical matters.
  • Execution of the staff training and competency plan, including documentation and coordination of orientation, training, and ongoing competency of laboratory staff.

The department manager retains responsibility for the training plan and acceptance of all training and competency documentation.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in Clinical or Medical Laboratory Science (Medical Technology), biological, chemical, or related science, and successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited clinical/medical laboratory science program educational rotation in Clinical Microbiology.
  • A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university, including courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics, and successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited clinical/medical laboratory science program.

Qualifications

  • Current American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) certification as a Clinical/Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist, or Microbiology Laboratory Scientist or Microbiology Medical Technologist.
  • Current American Association of Bioanalysts certification as a Medical Technologist or Microbiology Medical Technologist with at least ten (10) years of current Clinical Bacteriology laboratory work experience performing high-complexity testing of all common patient specimen types.
  • Previously certified Medical Technologists who met credentialing requirements from the United States Department of Health, Education & Welfare (HEW certified MT) with at least 10 years of recent and continuous clinical microbiology work experience may also be considered.

Pay

$35.80/hour - $55.54/hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may vary based on location.
