Microbiology and Immunology Faculty Positions
The Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology (MMI) at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences seeks to hire two tenure-track faculty positions (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) focused on funded researchers studying highly infectious BSL3- or BSL2-level pathogens, including host-pathogen interactions and/or vaccine/therapeutic development studies.
About the University
The University is completing an exciting phase of research infrastructure expansion, including an $8M investment to renovate and expand the existing BSL3/A-BSL3 into 6 biocontainment suites, with shared equipment spaces and biocontainment entry/exit showers, for Tier 1 Select Agent, biodefense, and/or emerging infectious disease research. BSL3/A-BSL3 renovations are expected to be completed and CDC-certified by September 2026.

The UToledo Health Science Campus is home to the University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC), associated clinics, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and other healthcare-related disciplines. COMLS is a national leader in inter-professional education and technology-enabled approaches for both medical and graduate education.
COMLS has over 370 clinical and basic science faculty who integrate research, education, and patient care. The college trains approximately 700 medical students, 300 graduate students, and 400 residents and fellows in collaboration with ProMedica Health System and 700 community-based faculty.
The COMLS supports research efforts through numerous centers and core facilities, including the Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Center, Flow Cytometry Core, Microbiome Consortium, Electron Microscopy Core, Histology Core, and other integrated core facilities. The University has also acquired 10X Genomics Chromium X for single-cell and ATAC sequencing, as well as both the Xenium In Situ and Visium CytAssist for Spatial Transcriptomics.
Requirements
- Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree
- At least three years of relevant postdoctoral experience
- Current funding (including transferable training grants, such as the K award)
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an externally funded research program
- Contribute to teaching in medical and graduate programs
