About the role

The Microbiologist is responsible for performing routine testing within the laboratory; ensuring compliance with cGMP systems including SOPs, test methods, and protocols; reviewing multiple sources and types of data; and assisting in investigations. The role interacts with other departments such as Quality Assurance, Client Services, and Sample Administration, as well as auditors and inspectors. The ideal candidate will promote a culture aligned with ATL’s values, drive task completion on time, and adapt positively to change.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize fundamentals of microbial testing, including good aseptic technique, sanitizing surfaces and equipment, and precisely weighing products to create sample dilutions.
  • Operate balances, pipettes, stomacher, water baths, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Perform routine lab maintenance, including stocking consumable materials, placing orders, storing samples properly, and maintaining an organized lab space.
  • Perform daily calibrations of instrumentation as needed.
  • Complete necessary documentation in associated logbooks and data collection sheets following GDP/ALCOA guidelines.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to balance duties across multiple laboratory spaces.
  • Utilize safe biowaste disposal practices in accordance with site regulations.
  • Handle other essential tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or other life science.
  • 1+ year of laboratory experience preferred (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted).

Skills

  • Comfortable using equipment such as balances, incubators, and pipettors.
  • Strong basic math skills for routine calculations.
  • Good attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Experience with basic MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and manage scheduling effectively.
  • Ability to rapidly accept and apply process changes.

Schedule

Typically Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. A weekend rotation is required, with time-off during the week of that rotation.

Pay

$17 – $18 an hour (actual compensation may vary based on factors such as location, education, experience, and skillset).
