Job Summary
The Micro Quality Technician is responsible for conducting microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, environmental swabs, and finished beverage products. This role supports food safety monitoring programs, sanitation verification, and product release decisions through timely and accurate laboratory testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform microbial testing (e.g., APC, yeast/mold, coliforms, Enterobacteriaceae) on product and environmental samples
- Prepare media, testing by pour plate and membrane filtration, reading back results and recordkeeping
- Document results according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Monitor, maintain and calibrate lab equipment
- Support environmental monitoring through water sampling, swabbing, and air plate collection to support sanitation verification programs
- Assist in investigating microbial out-of-spec results and corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and food safety standards
- Housekeeping and inventory of Labatory
- Follow all company policies and procedures related to safety, food safety, and quality standards, including GMPs, PPE requirements, and hazard reporting
- Perform all other duties or tasks as assigned by management to support departmental or company objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- Associate or bachelor's degree in microbiology, Food Science, or related field preferred
- 1–2 years of experience in a food or beverage quality lab preferred
- Familiarity with basic microbial plating and identification methods
- Skills & Competencies:
- Proficient in aseptic technique and sample handling
- Attention to detail and time management
- Strong team collaboration and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and communicate findings clearly
