About the role

We assist with the delivery of patient care under the direction of the registered nurse. Our role involves supporting the primary nurse and physician in establishing patient goals and collaborating to develop the treatment plan. We provide input into the treatment plan by sharing relevant patient and family observations with other team members. We follow established guidelines in carrying out the patient treatment plan, which may include one-to-one activities with patients, group activities, and participation in group therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Provides care and support services for assigned patients.
  • Carries out care based on physical, psycho/social, and educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
  • Completes documentation of patient related tasks.
  • Maintains required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy, method of introduction, explaining services or procedures, requesting permissions, and adjusting communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Education: Required - Bachelor's degree in psychology or sociology or related field.
  • Experience: Preferred - Prior experience in psychiatry.
  • Certifications: Required - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Working knowledge of medical terminology; ability to file alphabetically and numerically, legible handwriting, spelling/grammar aptitude; strong interpersonal skills; proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications; effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with and maintain confidentiality; organizing and prioritizing skills; ability to travel.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to file alphabetically and numerically, legible handwriting, spelling/grammar aptitude.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively care for debilitated and/or demented patients who require total care.
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Organizing and prioritizing skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout and between facilities.
