About the role

Responsible to the Manager Sterile Processing for the operation and administration of the Sterile Processing systems, including effective management of clinical systems, human resources, finances and the work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and monitors sterile processing standards, and promotes the overall goals and objectives of the department’s mission.
  • Adjusts to and leads others through a rapidly changing environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing with Alabama Licensure, Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work related experience demonstrating effective leadership and management skills.
  • IHAHCSMM certification in Healthcare Leadership required within 1 year of hire.

Experience

  • Extensive Operating Room or Sterile Processing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability. Management experience desirable.

Additional Skills/Abilities

  • Above average verbal and written communication skills.
  • In depth experience and knowledge of sterile processing and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with OR procedures and practices as they apply to utilization of instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission and AAMI standards.
  • Ability to organize work load, accomplish goals and objectives, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to problem solve effectively, detect problems, gather and organize data, consider alternatives and commit to appropriate action.
  • Ability to establish performance/developmental goals, coach performance, provide training, and evaluate performance for trainees.
  • Ability to determine priorities, delegate when required and follow up on problem solving, including the ability to adapt to an often stressful and rapidly changing environment.
  • Discipline to adhere to processes and procedures as well as hold accountable direct reports to do the same.
  • A quality orientation and attention to detail.
  • Computer literacy and working knowledge of WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, Excel, and SPM applications.
