Job Summary

The Manager of Imaging Operations plans, designs, coordinates, and improves Imaging Services. The role is directly accountable for managing multiple imaging modalities—including CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, MRI, and Diagnostic Services—while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and the Joint Commission. The manager also recommends and helps develop policies and procedures to align with regulations and system philosophy, and acts as Radiology Director as needed.

Essential Functions

• Plan, design, implement, and maintain work processes for imaging services, focusing on turnaround times, exam quality, and patient preparation.
• Ensure timely, accurate, and cost‑efficient services while complying with system and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
• Continuously revise processes for improvement and efficiency; investigate, resolve, and document patient complaints.
• Monitor, evaluate, and modify staffing patterns; prepare work schedules to ensure shift coverage; approve paid time off, sick time, and leave of absence.
• Interview, hire, counsel, and terminate personnel with Human Resources; complete performance evaluations, rewards, and recognition; train new staff; ensure all registrations and certifications are current.
• Partner with management and staff to hold multidisciplinary meetings, facilitate goal setting, monitor achievements, and incorporate feedback from employee satisfaction and patient safety surveys.
• Develop department budget, provide feedback on equipment needs, monitor operational budgets, and implement corrective action plans for productivity or expense variances.
• Act as Radiology liaison to other departments, develop cooperative relationships with physicians and medical departments, and assist in policy development and implementation.
• Ensure department compliance with JCAHO, TDH standards, and other accrediting bodies.
• Identify patient service needs using AIDET, ensure correct exams are performed, and establish rapport with patients.
• Coordinate and run groups on patient safety, customer service, and performance improvement; focus on environment of care, employee engagement, and physician engagement.
• Participate in shared governance, professional organizations, and committees, including LEAN initiatives, 5S projects, and quality assurance with radiologists.

Key Success Factors

• Stay updated on imaging trends, techniques, protocols, and procedures; maintain equipment skills for all patient age groups.
• Perform high‑quality advanced imaging procedures according to exam protocol and explain procedures to patients.
• Ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times, providing courteous service, reviewing satisfaction scores, and developing action plans.
• Serve as preceptor, providing quality training to new team members and on new services and initiatives.
• Make operational judgments on work quality, productivity standards, and measurable goals for employees and project teams.
• Use broader goals to allocate resources effectively to meet schedules and objectives.
• Make or approve effective hiring and termination decisions.
• Evaluate and recommend policy changes; establish procedures affecting the managed organization.
• Demonstrate basic business knowledge including annual planning, goal setting, budget adherence, employee compensation, compliance, and risk management.
• Utilize general computer skills: Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
• Ability to take call, if required.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: Associate's degree or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
• Certifications / Licenses: Must hold one of the following certifications (or equivalent) and be certified by ARRT, ARDMS, or the specialty certification for the area of responsibility:
  • American Registry of MRI Technologists (ARMRIT)
  • ARRT‑Bone Density (ARRT‑BD)
  • ARRT‑Breast Sonography (ARRT‑BS)
  • ARRT‑Computed Tomography (ARRT‑CT)
  • ARRT‑Mammography (ARRT‑M)
  • ARRT‑Magnetic Resonance (ARRT‑MR)
  • ARRT‑Nuclear Medicine (ARRT‑N)
  • ARRT‑Radiography (ARRT‑R)
  • ARRT‑Sonography (ARRT‑S)
  • ARRT‑Interventional Radiology (ARRT‑VI)
  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – Abdomen (RDMS‑AB)
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer – Breast (RDMS‑BR)
  • Other acceptable registrations include RDMS‑FE, RDMS‑OB, RDMS‑PS, RN, etc.
