POSITION SUMMARY
The Mgr – Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) provides leadership to site operations to ensure successful execution of EHS strategies and systems. This position is the face of safety at the site, actively promoting a culture of safety and working to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees and compliance for the company.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the site in achieving a sustainable safety culture through effective implementation of processes and initiatives that are focused on risk and incident reduction and compliance with corporate policies as well as external regulations.
- Actively engages with site leadership and operating plans to ensure EHS compliance while improving operational results.
- Executes EHS policies and programs to drive a Zero Incidents culture at the site, leveraging best practices and behavior-based methodologies.
- Recommends and implements programs for monitoring and preventing physical hazards at the facility.
- Performs measurements, safety evaluations, and hazardous waste evaluations and follows through with corrective action. Serves as the point-of-contact for compliance reporting and audits.
- Champions the Matthews Management System (MMS) to drive safety & health excellence through culture change (behavior-based methods).
- Develops and implements Job Hazard Analysis, as well as procedures and instructions necessary to execute the site safety plan.
- Supports management system compliance as needed (e.g., OHSAS 18000, OSHA VPPA, etc.).
- Implements initiatives designed to identify, evaluate, prevent and control EHS related hazards through means such as, but not limited to:
- Comprehensive assessments of critical programs such as fire prevention, driver/vehicle and hazard identification and prevention.
- Environmental management systems and programs (e.g., ISO 14001 compliant or certified sites).
- Leads investigation, root cause analysis and development of corrective actions and reporting of adverse EHS incidents, accidents and near misses.
- Utilizes Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) model for continuous improvement.
- May manage support staff to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished. Mentors, coaches, trains and develops team.
- Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
- 8 years progressive Health and Safety leadership experience in manufacturing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3-5 years in a direct or indirect leadership role.
- Periodic travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
- High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
- Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
- Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
- Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
- Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
