About the role
The Assistant Nurse Manager provides supervision and clinical expertise to clinical staff (Medical Assistants, LPNs, and RNs) in the OB/Gyn Clinic and other areas as appropriate. This role assists the Ambulatory Administrator in hiring, firing, conducting employee evaluations, orienting new employees, and performance improvement activities. Additionally, the Assistant Nurse Manager helps manage the department budget(s), facilitates positive customer service, and ensures patient-centered care in the clinic. The role includes direct patient care and related procedures as needed, and serving as a charge nurse for the OB/GYN Clinic and Prenatal Diagnostic Program.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and provide clinical expertise to clinical staff (Medical Assistants, LPNs, and RNs).
- Assist in hiring, firing, and conducting periodic evaluations of clinical personnel.
- Orient new clinical employees and participate in performance improvement activities.
- Assist in managing the department budget(s).
- Facilitate positive customer service and patient-centered care.
- Provide direct patient care and related procedures as necessary.
- Serve as a charge nurse for the OB/GYN Clinic and Prenatal Diagnostic Program.
- Supervise 12-15 employees.
Requirements
- Associate's degree from an accredited school of nursing (required).
- New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position.
- Current employees hired or transferred into the position prior to August 1, 2013, are grandfathered.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (preferred).
- 3-5 years of experience as a practicing RN in acute care, with supervisory or charge nurse experience.
- Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Professional certification required within two years of hire or transfer (effective January 1, 2015).
Skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to function independently.
- Demonstrated management skills, conflict resolution, and negotiation techniques.
- Knowledge of regulatory agency standards (e.g., JCAHO, AHCA, Nurse Practice Act).

- PC, multi-line phones, fax, copier.
- Omnicell medication station, IV pump, oxygen and suction equipment.
- Mechanical beds, computer, monitors, scales.
- Phlebotomy equipment, defibrillator, crash cart, CRT.
