MGBCI Ambulatory Solid Tumor Oncology NP

About the role

The solid tumor hematology oncology NP provides comprehensive ambulatory care to one or more disease specific medical oncology patient populations. With an interdisciplinary team approach, this provider promotes a collaborative relationship between all providers, professional nurses and administrative staff, to ensure continuity of patient care and efficient use of resources. The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of solid tumor medical oncology patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and development and implementation of appropriate plans of care across the trajectory of illness for patients. In addition to providing direct and indirect patient care, the hematology oncology APP serves as a role model for professional advanced practice and participates in the professional development of the team through teaching, committee involvement or quality and safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a select patient population.
• Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate lab and diagnostic tests to assess patients' clinical problems and health care needs.
• Arranges for appropriate plan of care and follow-up based on outcome of diagnostic, lab, and physical assessment findings.
• Performs physical examinations and provides preventive health measures appropriate to patient needs.
• Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
• Maintains interdisciplinary approach to planning and communicating patient care information by discussing patient data with appropriate physicians and other health care professionals.
• Records pertinent patient care findings in the medical record.
• Maintains a collaborative relationship with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care and efficient use of resources.
• Participates in departmental and organization quality improvement program.
• Utilizes quality improvement data and research findings to enhance patient care.
• Serves on Nursing and Hospital Committees and assumes responsibility for disseminating and communicating information to staff.
• Assists in the development, implementation and revision of nurse practitioner guidelines and monitoring requirements for prescription writing in collaboration with their designated physician and Nursing Director or Executive Nursing Director.
• Evaluates outcomes of own patients' care and makes necessary revisions in care plans.
• Seeks and provides consultative services as required.
• Participates in departmental and organization quality improvement program.
• Utilizes quality improvement data and research findings to enhance patient care.

Requirements

• Master's in Nursing (MSN) (or) Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) (or) PhD Degree in Nursing required.
• Satisfactory completion of an approved formal education program that has as its objective the preparation of professional nurses to practice as nurse practitioners.
• ANA or other appropriate nursing certification in the area of practice and authorization by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing to practice in the expanded role.
• DEA for prescription writing.
• Minimum 5 years’ current nurse practitioner experience caring for an Oncology focused patient population required.
• Clinical nurse practitioner experience in an ambulatory practice managing a solid tumor oncology focused patient population required.
• Oncology Nursing Board Certification strongly preferred.
• Clinical experience ordering and/or administering antineoplastics preferred.

Qualifications

• Current Adult/Gerontology (AGNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Certification by an accredited APRN certifying body required.
• DEA registration required and current APRN License to practice in Massachusetts required.
• Proficiency with Epic EMR.
• Telemedicine experience.
• Strong managerial presence and ability to provide & direct feedback and guidance to staff.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Results-oriented and exhibits a strong attention to detail.
• Expert clinical judgment skills to function in the independent role.
• Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills in order to collaborate with patients’ families, staff and community health workers.
• Able to work with frequent stress resulting from busy clinical settings and changing organizational climate.
• Able to be self-directive and demonstrate initiative in addressing responsibilities of position.
• Able to utilize appropriate problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
