Responsibilities
- Define, develop, and deploy optical and computer vision measurement and inspection systems with Development, Quality, IT, Purchasing, and Operations
- Take measurement technology from early development to a production-ready system on the manufacturing floor
- Work with external suppliers and integrators: write scopes of work, gather quotes, issue POs, track progress, and approve invoices
- Design experiments and analyze data to improve measurement systems and production processes
- Create release documentation, including machine specifications, operating procedures, and drawing packages
- Install, check out, and troubleshoot electrical, optical, and mechanical systems, both onsite and remotely, using performance data
- Train engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to use and maintain the systems
Requirements
- BS or MS in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 3+ years of hands-on machine vision and metrology equipment experience, or a PhD in one of these fields
- Hands-on vision system experience, with working knowledge of physical optics, lighting, cameras, and lasers
- Image processing algorithm knowledge plus programming in C# or Python (Visual Studio environment)
- Experience installing, integrating, and troubleshooting electrical, optical, and mechanical systems
- US citizen or US permanent resident, able to work onsite in Erwin, NY at 40+ hours per week
Skills
- Halcon, Matrox Inspector, NI Vision, Cognex, Keyence, or MATLAB Image Processing Toolbox
- Digital signal processing
- PLCs and motion control integration on imaging platforms
- Design of experiments, statistical analysis, and process improvement
- 3D transformations and topography data (height maps, point clouds, surface meshes), including multi-dataset registration and surface comparison
- Designing and deploying machine learning or deep learning models
- High performance computing systems
- Metrology, inspection, and product quality experience in a manufacturing setting
