Metrologist

Work Schedule: Standard Hours; Monday through Friday, 100% on-site at Catalent’s flagship softgel development and manufacturing facility in St. Petersburg, FL, with a capacity of 18 billion capsules per year.

About the Role

The Metrologist is responsible for the general oversight and support of laboratory instrumentation, including problem-solving, validation support, preventive maintenance and calibration, capital equipment requests, troubleshooting, repair, and training personnel on instrumentation.

• Ensure laboratory instrument calibration and preventive maintenance (PM) programs are performed as scheduled, including reviewing and maintaining all calibration and PM documentation.
• Coordinate outside contractors for calibration, preventive maintenance, and equipment service, ensuring services are scheduled, approved, completed, and compliant with industry guidelines.
• Create, review, and maintain internal and external calibration and preventive maintenance master documentation to ensure required checks and assessments are completed in compliance with applicable guidelines.
• Serve as the laboratory system administrator and a member of the data integrity team, evaluating laboratory systems for compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 and corporate data integrity requirements, including periodic system reviews.
• Provide technical support to laboratory personnel by performing initial troubleshooting, serving as the primary point of contact for laboratory systems, and coordinating communication with corporate teams and local users.
• Attend external training to become a subject matter expert on laboratory instrumentation and provide ongoing technical support and guidance to laboratory personnel.
• Lead capital equipment requests, oversee the decommissioning of outdated laboratory instruments, and ensure the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) remains current and accurate.
• Perform and assist with calibration and preventive maintenance activities while ensuring appropriate controls are in place to support regulatory compliance and data integrity requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Metrology, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related scientific discipline required. Advanced degree preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in metrology or an instrumentation-intensive position in a GMP-regulated environment required.
• Work experience in a cGMP laboratory is required.
• Experience as a laboratory administrator is preferred.
• Previous experience handling regulatory/customer audits for laboratory systems is preferred.
• Prior experience troubleshooting electronic and electrical circuits.
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk regularly and occasionally lift 0-15 pounds.
• Vision requirements: ability to differentiate color, 20/30 vision in each eye with or without corrective lenses, read written documents, and use a computer monitor frequently.
