Metro Action Commission Head Start Teacher Assistant

This is a full-time, non-civil service position in the Head Start program with the Metropolitan Action Commission.

Schedule

Work hours: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teacher
• Serve as a bus monitor
• Help children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally
• Plan, document, and implement daily lesson plans and special activities
• Perform tasks associated with the education component and assure confidentiality
• Maintain proper supervision of children at all times indoors and outdoors
• Document and implement integration of component events in the classroom (e.g., handwashing, toileting, tooth brushing, preparing children for health services and community visits)
• Report any children concerns to the assigned Parent, Family, Community, and Engagement Advocate
• Report suspected child abuse or neglect to the immediate supervisor
• Ensure daily implementation of the family style food service
• Support and assist volunteers serving in the education program
• Assume other task-related duties as requested

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and willingness to enroll in a CDA Program
• Valid Driver License
• Residency in the State of Tennessee or willingness to become a resident within six months of employment
• Subject to extensive background checks and random drug tests

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous work experience with young children
• CDA or AA degree in Early Childhood Education
