Methuen Adoption Center - Temporary Animal Welfare Specialist

About the role

The MSPCA is the largest animal welfare organization in New England, caring for and placing over 11,000 animals annually across its four adoption centers. At the Methuen Adoption Center, over 3,500 animals are cared for each year with a 92% live release rate. Responsibilities

• Working hands-on with several species of animals, including companion, equine and farm animals, feeding, cleaning and disinfecting animal living spaces, providing enrichment activities, exercising, medication administration, etc.
• Facilitating adoptions by matchmaking animals with prospective adopters using a conversation-based approach with a goal of identifying the best possible outcome for the person and the animal.
• Assisting in the surrender of an animal in an empathetic and compassionate manner that is free from judgment.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in a customer service/client care position.
• Previous work or volunteer experience with animals is a plus.
• Demonstrate excellent judgment and interpersonal skills.
• Eager to work to support the human‑animal bond.
• Proficiency in Spanish is strongly encouraged.

Skills

• Previous animal handling experience (preferred).

Schedule

This is a temporary position requiring 40 hours per week, with required weekend days.
