About the role
Meter Specialists at Core & Main provide technical expertise and support to utilities, contractors, and municipalities in implementing advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), automated meter reading (AMR), and data-driven technologies.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical expert for metering solutions, supporting both customers and internal sales teams with product knowledge, system design, and application guidance
- Partner with utilities and contractors to deliver end-to-end metering solutions, including meters, AMI/AMR systems, and data management software
- Support customers in troubleshooting system issues, optimizing performance, and implementing new technologies in the field
- Lead product demonstrations, training sessions, and presentations for customers, including operations teams and leadership stakeholders
- Collaborate with sales teams to drive a consultative, solution-based sales approach focused on long-term customer value
- Possess prospecting and developing new business opportunities while expanding relationships with existing accounts
- Influence project specifications and help position Core & Main as a trusted partner in infrastructure modernization efforts
- Serve as the liaison between customers and internal teams, including engineering, vendors, and program management
- Aid in system installations, configurations, and commissioning of metering and data technologies
Requirements
- 2–3+ years of experience in metering, utilities, technical sales, or related infrastructure technology
- Working knowledge of water, wastewater, gas, or electric utility systems preferred
- Experience with AMI, AMR, or smart metering technologies is a strong plus
- Ability to translate technical concepts into practical, customer-focused solutions
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both field-level users and executive stakeholders
- Willingness to work in both office and field environments
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field
- License/Certification: Valid driver’s license and Iowa vehicle provided

- Technical proficiency in metering systems, endpoints, network infrastructure, and software platforms
- Customer service and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of stakeholders
- Fieldwork and troubleshooting experience
