Monday–Friday, 7:30 am–4:30 pm. Some evening and weekend work required.

About the role

Fort Worth Water is seeking an entry-level Meter Services Technician I to join our team. You will install, maintain, and troubleshoot over 302,000 water meters, work with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems, conduct field investigations, and deliver exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment with opportunities for growth through an established career ladder.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot remote-read radio communication signals
  • Perform installation and preventative maintenance on water meters, endpoints (radio transmitters), pipe fittings, valves, meter boxes, and lids
  • Conduct water services field investigations in response to customer inquiries; inspect water meters and pipe fittings for installation, repair, or replacement
  • Obtain and validate water meter readings; turn water services on/off and lock service for delinquent accounts
  • Provide exceptional face-to-face customer service, answer questions, and take steps to meet customer needs
  • Locate water assets (water service lines, water mains, water meters, and valves) using maps and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Inspect, operate, and maintain assigned City vehicles, equipment, tools, and machinery safely
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Pass physical and drug test
  • Obtain TCEQ Class D Water Distribution license within one year of hire
  • Obtain TCEQ Class C Water Distribution license within two years of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous plumbing, mechanical, oil field, utility, or construction field work experience
  • Knowledge and experience using a work order system
  • Bilingual
  • Basic computer skills

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Frequent touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, and workspace restrictions
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions including wind, rain, snow, extreme cold, or high heat
  • Frequent exposure to plants, animals, insects, spiders, and snakes
  • Heavy Work: exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly (e.g., water meters, registers, automated metering supplies, tools, equipment)
  • Mobility required to work in the field
