Metallurgist I
About the Role
Under close supervision, assists in providing technical support and advice in Metallurgical testing and analysis at assigned site.
Responsibilities
- Assists in Metallurgical studies and conducting analyses
- Prepares standard reports on Metallurgical or process issues and assists in recommending appropriate action to resolve or correct issues
- Assists in reviewing new or enhanced Metallurgical testing equipment or protocols
- Assists in evaluating and administering contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
- Develops and maintains an understanding of applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, State and Federal regulations applicable to area of assignment
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related Engineering discipline
- Knowledge of the basic principles and methods used in Metallurgical and processing analyses
- Able to conduct research and analyze information or considerable difficulty to draw valid conclusions
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Pay
The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $75,000-$104,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
Schedule
Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, which may include shift work (other than day shift) at a 24/7, 365-day operation.

Work Environment
Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.
