Metallurgist
About the role
A Snapshot of Your Day As a Metallurgist, you will be responsible for materials engineering and metallurgical support for the manufacture and processing of components and materials used in turbine generator applications. Additionally, you will provide direct, hands-on support to multiple manufacturing processes, along with onsite technical support for raw materials. In this role, you will support the development and implementation of testing protocols and evaluation methods for materials used within the Siemens Energy manufacturing facility located in Fort Payne, Alabama.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on support for manufacturing processes, including material testing activities, material evaluations, disposition of materials in stock, and technical review and disposition of material substitutions.
- Analyze data and communicate observed trends, risks, and insights.
- Deliver hands-on factory support for existing and new materials and associated manufacturing processes.
- Communicate and help implement engineering requirements within the manufacturing environment.
- Prepare engineering analyses of test data related to material and/or process quality.
- Serve as a technical interface with customers regarding material performance.
- Act as the onsite technical resource supporting the back-office development team.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science or Materials Engineering with a focus on Metallurgy. 3+ years of experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice versa.
Strong engineering fundamentals with a curiosity about materials used in power generation equipment. Aptitude and interest in developing materials engineering expertise within a manufacturing support environment. Curiosity about rotating electric machinery, such as generators or motors. Ability to work independently and be self-directed. Willingness to travel approximately 20% (not regularly scheduled).
Qualifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong data analysis skills. Willingness to work overtime and off-shift hours as needed to support emergent projects in both office and factory environments.

Hands-on experience with materials testing and evaluation. Proficiency in data analysis and communication. Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
