About the role

The Metallurgist supports the Laboratory/Technical Department in ensuring product quality, resolves metallurgical process and field issues, and implements solutions. They also assist in resolving issues with external labs and suppliers, interpret customer and industry specifications, and evaluate new materials and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze test data and develop rework instructions for products not meeting metallurgical requirements.
  • Interpret customer and industry specifications.
  • Work with the heat treat department to troubleshoot and expedite product movement.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of process parameters.
  • Evaluate and recommend new materials, processes, or modifications to current processes.
  • Maintain customer relationships through joint resolution of issues.
  • Ensure adherence to process specifications.
  • Support the Plant quality system goals and productivity goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or a related field.
  • 1 - 5 years working in a metallurgical plant, specifically with heat-treatable aluminum alloys in a production environment.
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment or shop floor quality management system experience.
  • Fast and continuous learning skills to understand aluminum alloy microstructures, heat treating processes, and testing methods.
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, Six Sigma processes, and quality techniques like FMEA, PPAP, and APQP.
  • Strong familiarity with destructive and non-destructive testing methods.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • CAD/Solid Works experience a plus.

Skills

  • Ability to operate in a drug-free workplace.
  • Self-starter, self-managed, and strong time management skills.
  • Knowledge of product requirements from commercial and aerospace customers.
  • Experience with ITAR and EAR regulations.
