Metallurgical Technician

About the role

Nucor Steel Arkansas is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Metallurgical Technician. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Responsibilities

• Participate in safety and housekeeping efforts to ensure a safe work environment for themselves and their teammates.
• Assist in disposition of held, non-conforming material, including dimensional and surface-related nonconformances.
• Reallocate excess and downgraded inventory in business system.
• Set up outside processing for rework including requisitions and production records.
• Lead and support continuous improvement efforts by reducing costs, improving quality/reliability/productivity by understanding key process indicators through analytical tools, data, and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years continuous casting steel sheet mill experience or 3 years of laboratory and quality assurance experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of the steelmaking process and related defects
• Experience as a mill operator
• Experience with AS400
• Experience using Excel to compare data and look at trends
