About the Role

This Metal Finisher I position performs finishing operations according to specifications documented on the job order. Additional production tasks such as sandblasting and/or operating a tumbler will be performed in a timely and efficient manner, adhering to Tecomet's principles of Safety, Quality, Customer Satisfaction, and Innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic finishing operations, including deburring, hand grinding, and polishing, and break edges.
  • Perform sandblasting using a blast cabinet to apply finishes on parts and determine the appropriate blasting medium for various operations.
  • Conduct visual inspections to achieve surface finishes per specifications and blueprints.
  • Perform required set-ups and operate appropriate finishing equipment to apply proper finishes.
  • Acquire Production Approval (PA) when specified on job router or work order.
  • Count parts before beginning and after completing a job before moving to the next operation.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Actively participate in 5S daily operator checklist responsibilities.
  • Learn and practice daily any/all Lean practices introduced in the area.
  • Additional duties may be assigned by the production supervisor to meet company production goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED or HiSET).
  • Experience working with hand tools, sanders, and grinders preferred.
  • Ability to accurately use all measuring equipment and read basic blueprints.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Listening, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to read and interpret quality standards and work orders.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with the production team on quality issues.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures and report unsafe activities to a supervisor.
  • Able to meet production metrics as required for the position.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements per the employee handbook policy.
  • Able to communicate respectfully with others and work in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn.

Work Environment

The work environment includes frequent walking; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaching with hands and arms; and talking or hearing. The employee may be required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
