Metal Fabricator - Weekend Shift

About the role

Reporting directly to the Fabrication Supervisor, this Metal Fabricator position is for our Weekend Shift based at our Price, Utah facility. You will fabricate, lay out, position, align, fit parts, and assemble structural metal products such as framework or shells for machinery and metal parts using tools like welders, cutting torches, grinders, and brake presses.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout.
• Plan sequence of operations to maximize efficiency in terms of time, quality, quantity, resources, and overall costs.
• Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
• Interpret weld form symbols on blueprints and drawings.
• Design and construct templates and fixtures.
• Position, align, fit, and weld together material pieces to AWS specifications using MIG welder and pulse process in flat, vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions.
• Tack up structures to meet tolerances and specifications.
• Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools.
• Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
• Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces; cut, bend, and straighten metal.
• Operate MIG welder, shear and break press, punch press, overhead crane, forklift, hoists, grinders, cutting torch, drills, and miscellaneous hand tools.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good operating condition and ensure proper storage at the end of each shift.
• Maintain regular and consistent job attendance and punctuality.
• Follow and comply with IE Core Values and safety program.
• Install electrical components in pre-cut panels and wire as needed.
• Wash, prime, and paint parts for electrical units.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, plus 2 years of welding fabrication experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency in MIG welding and ability to discern correct welding applications.
• Essential “rigging” knowledge.
• Good math skills for transferring print information to the fabrication process.
• Ability to read and interpret shop/engineering drawings.
• Punctuality and ability to maintain positive working relationships.
• Frequent standing for prolonged periods; ability to lift/move up to 100 pounds, pull, push, reach, grasp, kneel, crouch, stoop, crawl, and climb ladders.
• Ability to fabricate and assemble metal buildings, products, and parts.
• Skill in operating a wide range of equipment, hand and power tools, overhead crane, forklift, torches, brake shear, power saws, drills, and punch press.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Customer focus and ability to work as part of a team, take direction, adjust to changes, focus on details, and follow work rules.
• Ability to mentor fellow employees/teammates.
• Ability to climb and work from elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways.
• Record of dependability and cooperation in previous work environments.
• Ability to obtain and maintain current AWS (American Welding Society) certifications as required.
