About the Role

This position provides messenger service to the hospital by transporting non-ambulatory patients, pharmaceuticals, medical records, lab specimens, and blood bank deliveries. The role involves responding to routine and emergency calls and may include transporting medications within the scope of practice and according to State Law.

Responsibilities

• Transfers patients from one hospital area to another.
• Handles devices such as intravenous bottles, oxygen masks, oxygen tanks, urine drainage bags, and blood bags attached to patients during transportation.
• Transports expired patients to the morgue on a stretcher.
• Picks up and delivers medical records, pharmaceuticals, laboratory specimens, blood, other medical items, and mail.

• Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
• Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.
• Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.

Preferred Qualifications

• Depending on the area of assignment, a current, valid Utah driver's license may be required.
• Depending on the area of assignment, a Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through the American Heart Association may be required.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position involves intermediate work that may exert up to 50 pounds and consistently requires lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects while assisting patients. The incumbent may be exposed to potentially dangerous contaminated bodily fluids, blood and blood products, chemotherapy solutions, and other contaminants.

• Far and near vision, color determination, listening, speaking, sitting, standing, walking, tasting, or smelling.
