Merchandise Planner - Camping/Water Sports
About the role
Academy Sports + Outdoors seeks a strategic planner to join our dynamic Buying department. This role will play a pivotal part in achieving sales, profit, and inventory objectives through efficient planning and analysis.
Responsibilities
- Aid the Buying department in meeting sales, profit, and inventory targets through effective planning and analysis.
- Utilize planning and analysis procedures throughout the financial and assortment planning process.
- Contribute insights during weekly Category Management Team meetings, providing class/sub class perspectives.
- Create quarterly/seasonal assortment business plans and reconcile them with financial plans.
- Evaluate proposed actions and timelines to ensure all deadlines are met for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Replenishment team on weekly needs, ensuring accurate inventory levels.
- Manage Open To Buy and remain informed about industry trends to implement best practices.
- Attend vendor meetings to present updated projections and contribute to strategic discussions.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of Academy policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Requirements
- 5+ years of related work experience, preferably in a retail environment.
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent years of related work experience.
- Strong analytical skills, including problem-solving abilities and creative resolution skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to interact effectively with individuals at various levels.
- The ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment, maintaining attention to detail and organization.
- Effective time management skills to handle multiple projects and manage a high volume of work.
- A positive attitude towards change, adapting to new practices and values to achieve goals and solve problems.
- Knowledge of retail math and working proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle, and SAS (or equivalent planning software experience preferred).
Qualifications
- Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties.
- Regular attendance required.
- 5% domestic travel, overnight stays as needed.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
