MEP Project Manager I

About the role

Mortenson is seeking an experienced MEP Project Manager I to provide overall direction and leadership on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) dominant projects or MEP scopes of work on medium to large projects. This role involves managing project quality, timeliness, safety, and mentoring the project team while developing and enhancing customer relationships through excellent service.

Responsibilities

• Manage the overall financial health of projects, including developing and maintaining project financial and equipment projections.
• Determine and allocate project estimates into the financial system; approve invoices and make budget management decisions.
• Provide financials and billings to Accounting for timely payment; create monthly owner billings.
• Manage subcontracts and suppliers, including budget oversight, trade partner selection, contract buyouts, and billings.
• Oversee the 3-D coordination process to resolve conflicts prior to installation.
• Direct and manage the commissioning process, including startup plans, COT, commissioning schedules, and functional testing.
• Lead all project closeout activities, including operations and maintenance manuals, model turnover, and training.
• Manage Assistant Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s), including job assignments, career development, and timecard approvals.
• Serve as the main point of contact with the owner and on-site representative; resolve site concerns and assist with owner agreement reviews.
• Build positive relationships and future work opportunities through frequent interactions and excellent service.
• Manage change orders, including submission to owners or representatives and obtaining customer/architect approval.
• Maintain schedule and budget until project completion.
• Provide high-level management of quality, risk, safety, and compliance for the project and team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, and/or Electrical Engineering or equivalent field experience.
• Minimum six years of construction management experience, preferably with a Mechanical or Electrical Contractor.
• Proven ability to fulfill development to closeout responsibilities for complex projects.
• Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
• Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software, and pertinent web applications.
• Proven positive and professional attitude with strong customer service skills.
• Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies.
• Current driver’s license.

Pay

The base pay range for this role is $113,500 - $170,300. Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
