MEP Project Manager - Data Center Construction
Mortenson is seeking a MEP Project Manager to lead and direct MEP-dominant projects or MEP scopes on medium to large projects, ensuring quality, timeliness, and safety. This role involves mentoring the project team and enhancing customer relationships through excellent service. Opportunities are available at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications.
About the role
This position focuses on managing the overall financial health of projects, overseeing budget and trade partner selection, directing the 3-D coordination and commissioning processes, and leading project closeout activities. The MEP Project Manager serves as the main contact with the owner and on-site representatives, resolving concerns and building positive relationships.
Responsibilities
- Manage overall financial health of projects, including developing and maintaining financial and equipment projections.
- Allocate project estimates into the financial system, determine cost codes, approve invoices, and manage the budget.
- Provide financials and billings to Accounting for timely payment and create monthly owner billings.
- Oversee budget, select trade partners and suppliers, and handle billings and contract management.
- Direct the 3-D coordination process to resolve conflicts before installation.
- Manage the commissioning process, including start-up plan, COT, schedule, and functional testing.
- Lead project closeout activities, including operations and maintenance manuals, model turnover, and training.
- Manage Assistant Project Manager(s) and Project Engineer(s), providing job assignments, career development, and feedback.
- Serve as the main contact with the owner and on-site representative, resolving site concerns and building positive relationships.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent field experience.
- Current driver’s license.
- Ability to manage development to closeout responsibilities for complex projects.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
- Basic understanding of construction law and business practices.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, project management software, and relevant web applications.
- Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service skills.
- Ability to interpret and communicate company policies.
- Active listening and effective communication skills, open to diverse input and feedback.
- Ability to travel up to 100%.
Requirements by Level
- MEP Project Manager I
- Minimum six years of construction management experience, preferably with a Mechanical or Electrical Contractor.
- MEP Project Manager II
- Minimum seven years of construction management experience, preferably with a Mechanical or Electrical Contractor.
Pay
- MEP Project Manager I: Base pay range of $113,500 (min) to $170,300 (max).
- MEP Project Manager II: Base pay range of $132,100 (min) to $198,200 (max).
- Actual range is higher for the following office locations:
- Denver, CO and Chicago, IL: +5%
- Seattle, WA and Portland, OR: +10%
- Washington, D.C.: +12.5%
- Base pay is positioned within the range based on knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
- Eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
