MEP Engineer - Remote - US Restaurant design (Production & Leadership Role)

About the role

AEP America is a development services firm offering architecture, engineering, and preconstruction services to restaurant and retail brands. This is a hands-on MEP engineering position that combines technical production, leadership, and team collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for commercial restaurant and retail projects
• Lead or oversee MEP design production (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) for tenant finish-outs, ground-up projects, remodels, and second-generation spaces
• Coordinate with architects, drafters, and project managers to deliver integrated, code-compliant MEP drawings
• Redline and review internal drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable codes (IMC, IECC, NEC, etc.)
• Respond to permit comments, revise and resubmit drawings as required
• Support and mentor internal drafters and engineers in training
• Work in Revit to produce efficient and accurate design documentation

Required Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with active registration in Texas
• 8–15+ years of experience in MEP engineering for restaurant and/or retail projects in the U.S.
• Capable of expanding licensure to additional states as needed
• Proficiency in Revit is preferable (AutoCAD proficiency also needed)
• Deep working knowledge of relevant U.S. codes and standards (IMC, IECC, NEC, etc.)
• Experience managing fast-paced production environments and overseeing internal teams
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively on remote project teams
• Excellent attention to detail, accountability, and clarity in communication

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with franchise development teams (e.g., Wingstop, Jersey Mike’s Subs, etc.)
• Experience training junior designers and helping develop internal engineering standards
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining quality and speed

Pay

$75–$125 per hour (contractor)
