MEP Engineer (NYC)

About the Role

Manage, evaluate, and assess information related to Mechanical and Electrical (MEP) systems necessary to construct the project on time in a safe manner, within budget, and to the quality specified by the contract documents.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Turner project team, subcontractors, owner’s consultants, and representatives to ensure optimal alignment and efficient systems installation.
• Prepare and manage the contract item’s list for all components, materials, and systems to ensure compliance with the project schedule and ROJ dates.
• Participate in schedule update meetings and provide accurate information for informed scheduling.
• Evaluate and manage the processing of RFIs.
• Manage the budget, including review, evaluation, and negotiation of all change orders, with awareness of subcontractors' financial status.
• Supervise, coach, and mentor Assistant MEP Engineers.
• Co-lead the MEP Coordination Process with the VDC Engineer to ensure compliance with design requirements, operations, maintenance fundamentals, and quality standards.
• Prepare scope of work documents, defining responsibility for trades and temporary operations.
• Partner with the MEP Superintendent to resolve conflicts between mechanical and electrical systems, site logistics, and project schedule.
• Co-lead the turnover process, including start-up, testing, commissioning, and closeout.
• Conduct regular project walkthroughs to ensure work aligns with contract documents, coordination drawings, and approved submittals.
• Identify and communicate difficult installation requirements to field staff for proper planning.
• Manage and secure all municipal and agency documentation required for temporary certificates and system operation.
• Create and implement the quality control plan with the MEP Superintendent.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of four years of relevant engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience relating to mechanical and electrical systems.
• Technical expertise in mechanical and electrical systems across diverse project types and their interrelationships.
• Business acumen to plan, manage, and execute duties with strong verbal and written communication, organizational skills, and proficiency in computer applications.
• Leadership attributes to foster a high-performing team.

Physical Demands

• Occasional physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, use construction personnel hoists, ladders, and negotiate work areas under construction.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Regular use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Ability to sit, talk, hear (bells, whistles, etc.), stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

• Regular on-site work at construction sites with exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
• Moderate to very loud noise levels.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $102,000 - $126,000 annualized, representing the company's good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting.
