Mentor Teacher (Contractual) for Carroll County Public Schools Teacher Induction Program

Job Summary

Towson University (TU) fosters a respectful environment that supports the growth of its community. As part of a partnership with Carroll County Public Schools (CCPS), Mentor Teachers provide support, training, coaching, and mentoring to new teachers to enhance student achievement and teacher retention.

Responsibilities

• Supports new teachers through classroom coaching and induction process meetings, totaling at least 180 minutes per month.
• Provides ongoing support and feedback through joint planning, modeling, team teaching, coaching, and virtual sessions.
• Models effective classroom practices and pedagogical techniques.
• Manages time effectively to meet with mentees at various locations.
• Uses the instructional coaching model to collaboratively identify needs, collect data, and reflect on the instructional process.
• Gathers and analyzes data to create plans for teaching and learning.
• Coordinates appropriate professional resources to address performance needs of mentees.
• Collaborates with school administration, content supervisors, media specialists, and teaching staff to integrate effective teaching strategies.
• Participates in planning, developing, and delivering professional learning opportunities for non-tenured teachers and peer mentors.
• Attends Mentor Team meetings to discuss program direction, procedures, improvements, and best practices.
• Engages in self-reflection to improve practice and seek ongoing professional learning.

Qualifications and Skills

• At least five years of outstanding teaching experience.
• Eligible for an advanced professional certificate/license.
• Experience with instructional mentoring or coaching within the past two years.
• Experience in school/teacher leadership opportunities within the past two years.
• Demonstrated knowledge of data-driven planning and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrated expertise and skill in differentiated instructional practices.
• Outstanding interpersonal communication skills.

Pay and Benefits
