Position Summary

At Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch, Mental Health Workers support a trauma-informed environment, facilitate, and supervise day-to-day activities of residential programming such as recreational activities, basic living and social skills, and ensure the safety of the youth. They serve as a positive role model and mentor to adolescents in treatment.

Daily And Monthly Responsibilities

  • Implement treatment programming and provide feedback for each child in the unit.
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and therapeutic milieu in the treatment unit.
  • Serve as a liaison to families and agencies responsible for youth in the unit, always providing professional customer service.
  • Design and implement psycho-educational groups to increase clients' knowledge and skills.
  • Responsible/accountable to the treatment team and YBGR for overall program needs.

Qualifications

  • 21 years old or older
  • Criminal / Child Abuse Clearance: Must pass criminal record and child abuse registry background check as required by the State of Montana
  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Abilities/Skills

  • Empathy and Compassion: Ability to empathize with the struggles and emotions of youth experiencing mental health challenges, and to provide compassionate care.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with youth, their families, and other members of the treatment team to facilitate treatment and support plans.
  • Boundaries and Professionalism: Understanding of professional boundaries and ethical guidelines in mental health care, including maintaining confidentiality and respecting patient autonomy.
  • Documentation Skills: Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records of youth’s interactions, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with YBGR requirements.
  • Self-motivation, self-discipline, and diligence with forward thinking.
  • Teamwork: Demonstrate the ability to think of their team over self and define success collectively rather than individually.
  • First Aid/CPR and Violence Intervention Prevention certification.

Compensation & Benefits

Starting salary range: $19.21–$21.62 per hour, based on education and relevant experience. This reflects steps 1–5 of an 11-step pay schedule. YBGR offers ongoing training, opportunities for advancement, and a supportive, mission-driven team culture.
