Mental Health Therapist, Contractor – NY / Remote
About the role
We are an early-stage company building a new kind of mental health program for kids, focusing on schools. Our goal is to support school staff who interact with students daily. We believe in earlier intervention, better coordination, and more engaged families and students.
Responsibilities
- Provide mental health assessments and teletherapy to middle and high school students in partner school districts.
- Participate in case discussions with other Cartwheel team members.
- Support students and families with transitions to community mental health and primary care providers.
- Build collaborative relationships with school leadership, staff, students, and families.
- Meet regularly with school staff to discuss student mental health needs and develop strategies to improve school services.
- Help lead mental health workshops and other programming for staff and families.
- Partner with school leadership on achieving their overall mental health vision.
Requirements
- Must have passion for working with schools on mental health.
- Must have a Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited school of Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy.
- Must be independently licensed as a therapist (LCSW or LCSW-R).
- Must have experience with CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused therapy, and/or motivational interviewing.
- Must have strong technological skills and be willing to learn new systems.
- Must have access to a reliable, high-speed internet connection.
- Must have excellent organization, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Must be willing to offer hours after a typical school day or weekends.
Qualifications
- Fluency in other languages (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese) is an extra credit.
- Experience with parent guidance is an extra credit.
- Experience developing and/or delivering skill-building workshops for parents and families on mental health topics is an extra credit.
- Willingness to visit schools and meet with staff occasionally during the year is an extra credit.
