Mental Health Technician - Per Diem General Adult Unit

About the role

At Oak Street South we focus on depression, anxiety, suicidality, self‑injurious behavior, trauma, and personality disorders. We also commonly see comorbid substance use disorder, OCD, and eating disorders. Our patient interactions/interventions are therapeutic, highly interpersonal, and skills‑based. This is a per diem, as‑needed position requiring at least four 8‑hour shifts per month; shifts may be days or evenings and flexibility is a must. Work location: 52 Oak Street, onsite.

Responsibilities

• Assist with care and treatment of psychiatric, drug and alcohol patients.
• Advocate for patients who may be vulnerable or need additional support.
• Provide parent/family counseling, including Parent Management Training and Family Systems interventions.
• Adhere to guidelines for patients on special status (e.g., suicide, sexual abuse or AWOL precautions).
• Provide accurate information on shift‑to‑shift report and remain on the unit while the incoming shift is in report.
• Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
• Display professional boundaries in relationships with patients at all times.
• Complete and file all required documentation in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Experience cannot be substituted for a degree.

Licenses and Credentials:

• Basic Life Support (BLS Certification) – various issuers preferred.
• Nursing Assistant (LNA – New Hampshire) – New Hampshire Board of Nursing preferred.

Experience:

• 0‑1 year of related experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to work well collaboratively and independently.
• Ability to operate within Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
• Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to work effectively with patients, other members of the health‑care team, facility personnel, and families/supportive others.
• Ability to give full attention to what others are saying, understand points made, ask appropriate questions, and avoid interrupting inappropriately.
• Successful completion of CPI training required within 30 days of hire.

Pay

Pay Range: $22.28 – $29.79 per hour (Grade 4).

Schedule

Per diem, as‑needed position requiring at least four 8‑hour shifts per month; shifts may be days or evenings; flexibility required. Scheduled weekly hours: 0; work shift: rotating.
