Mental Health Technician - Days

About the role

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Lufkin is dedicated to helping adults and seniors manage mental health issues through various inpatient and outpatient treatments.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to professional standards and policies.
• Supports nursing staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment.
• Assists in controlling patient behavior and implementing de-escalation techniques.
• Inventories patient belongings and secures contraband.
• Maintains patient safety and follows infection control policies.
• Performs vital signs, weights, ADLs, intake and output documentation, and nutritional monitoring.
• Aids in meal preparation, bathroom assistance, and laundry services.
• Ensures patients receive appropriate diets based on dietary restrictions, allergies, and preferences.
• Communicates patient observations, vital signs, nutrition intake, and other findings to nurses.
• Documents patient departures and significant occurrences accurately and promptly.
• Communicates completed tasks and updates on patient care responsibilities to nursing staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent with CNA certification or at least 6 months of prior direct patient care experience.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well with diverse populations and utilize age-specific, disability, and cultural sensitivity knowledge.
• Good physical and mental health, demonstrated by a warm, empathetic attitude and respect for clients.
• Successfully completed CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral de-escalation program.
