Mental Health Technician

About the role

As a Mental Health Technician (MHT), you will work with a collaborative care team to provide patients with the best care and support. You will assist in creating a caring, safe, and healing environment for patients experiencing mental illness and their families. This role involves using de-escalation skills, group dynamics, and facilitation, as well as crisis management, therapeutic programming, and milieu management.

You will address emergent and urgent issues as needed and perform activities of daily living (ADLs) on a daily basis. Additional responsibilities include providing patient care treatments, monitoring restraints, collecting patient data (vital signs, weights, intake & output), and collecting routine specimens such as urine, stool, and finger-stick blood glucose. You will also respond to call lights, assist nurses with procedures, and document care in the electronic health record.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care to individuals experiencing mental illness and their families using de-escalation skills, group dynamics, and facilitation.
• Assist with crisis management, therapeutic programming, and milieu management as part of the Mental Health Care team.
• Address emergent and urgent issues as needed.
• Perform activities of daily living (ADLs) on a daily basis.
• Provide patient care treatments, including restraint monitoring.
• Collect patient data, including vital signs, weights, intake & output.
• Collect routine patient specimens such as urine, stool, and finger-stick blood glucose.
• Respond to call lights and assist nurses with procedures as requested.
• Document and chart care provided in the electronic health record.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Completion of a post-secondary education program in behavioral sciences, OR
• Completion of one year of a post-secondary education in behavioral sciences or health care field, OR
• At least 1 year of supervised experience in the delivery of services to persons with mental illness, OR
• 1 year of similar related health care experience as applicable.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.

Schedule

FTE 0.70 (28 hours weekly), Day Shift. 0.5 FTE will be on the NE7 unit, and 0.20 FTE will be floating. Includes every other weekend rotation and some holidays.
