Mental Health Technician

About the role

Responsible for providing direct care to patients with psychiatric disorders to ensure their safety and well-being and to support the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu. This position requires patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assist with care and treatment of psychiatric, drug, and alcohol patients.
• Advocate for patients who may be vulnerable or need additional support.
• Provide parent/family counseling, including Parent Management Training and Family Systems interventions.
• Adhere to guidelines for patients on special status (e.g., suicide, sexual abuse, or AWOL precautions).
• Provide accurate information during shift-to-shift report and remain on the unit while the incoming shift is in report.
• Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies.
• Display professional boundaries in relationships with patients at all times.
• Complete and file all documentation as required in a timely manner.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (preferred).
• 0-1 year of related experience (preferred).
• Successful completion of CPI training is required within 30 days of hire.

Skills

• Ability to work well collaboratively and independently.
• Ability to operate within Electronic Health Records (EHR) system.
• Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to work effectively with patients, healthcare team members, facility personnel, and families/supportive others.
• Strong active listening skills, including giving full attention to others, understanding points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and avoiding interruptions.
