Mental Health Technician - Acute Psychiatric Adult

Responsibilities

• Complete Genesis modules by assigned date
• Fulfill Goal requirements
• Attend majority of mandatory meetings throughout the year, including staff meetings and direct connects
• Demonstrate competence in duties related to Christus St. Patrick Hospital's Core Values: Dignity/Integrity, Excellence, Stewardship, and Compassion
• Maintain patient safety and security through continuous alertness, patient identifiers, rounding, falls precautions, hand-off communication, emergency assistance, hazard-free environment, unit security, and emergency/disaster plans
• Comply with regulatory agency guidelines including DNV, OSHA, DHH, HIPAA; maintain infection control standards; protect patient confidentiality and rights
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members; report changes in patient condition promptly; use various technology applications
• Maintain professional development through attending inservices, meetings, and reviewing facility publications
• Perform basic nursing skills including vital signs, pulse oximetry, height/weight, intake/output, recognizing abnormal changes, catheter/colostomy/ileostomy care, specimen collection, moving/lifting techniques, and post-mortem care
• Provide patient comfort and safety through bathing, grooming, toileting, walking, skin care, tray distribution, feeding assistance, hydration, transferring, positioning, range of motion, recording activities, transporting, and admission/transfer/discharge processes
• Maintain patient environment and equipment including room cleanliness, water, linen, and towels
• Ensure effective use of supplies

Requirements

• High School Diploma required
• 1 year of mental health technician experience preferred
• BLS certification required
• Current de-escalation training or completion within 90 days of employment with annual recertification
