About the Role

The Mental Health Technician II provides direct care and support to patients with emotional, psychiatric, or behavioral conditions under the supervision of licensed clinical staff. The MHT assists in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment and promotes patient engagement in treatment and daily activities. This role is critical in monitoring patient behavior, facilitating group sessions, and supporting overall treatment plans.

The Mental Health Technician II is responsible for performing supportive, trauma-informed care to patients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu
  • Completion of routine safety checks and constant attendance per order
  • Adherence to patient-specific treatment plans
  • Crisis intervention
  • Assistance with activities of daily living
  • Appropriate documentation
  • Facilitation of therapeutic groups and assistance with programming
  • Collaboration with the treatment team and discharge planning
  • Demonstrates competence in providing age-appropriate, trauma-informed care and service for pediatric patients
  • Actively participates in self-appraisal for performance improvement

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related field
  • CPI or other crisis intervention training preferred or required within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a behavioral health or healthcare setting
  • Experience working with patients with mental health or substance use disorders

Schedule

Part-time, 24 hours per week (2 × 12-hour shifts). Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM. Includes weekend and holiday rotations.

Mental Health Unit at the Mathile Center for Mental Health and Wellness.
