As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Mental Health Specialist provides clinical and therapeutic counseling services to residents of the McLaughlin East Harlem Residence, a residential program for young adults preparing to transition into independent living. The Clinical Social Worker works from a trauma-informed lens when providing support to all residents.

Responsibilities

  • Provides therapy: individual, group, and family counseling, using agreed-upon models.
  • Facilitates regular psychoeducational groups for residents on a broad range of topics.
  • Functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team, participating in Case Review Meetings, Service Plan Reviews, Interdisciplinary Conferences, and other meetings.
  • Collaborates with other team members to arrange for wrap-around services in the community as needed.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide clinical support to residents.
  • Learns and uses the Salesforce database system to document all case information within given time parameters.
  • Supports trauma-informed care models and utilizes trauma-sensitive strategies when working with residents.
  • Promotes and models a commitment to creating a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work with NY LMSW, or Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling with NYS LMHCCA.
  • SAC-T a plus.
  • Clinical work with youth and families required, including crisis management.
  • Clear understanding of the needs of young adults experiencing homelessness and sensitivity to ethnic and cultural differences, including the needs of the LGBTQ community.
  • Ability to communicate with staff at all levels.
  • Demonstrated competence in verbal, written, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Capability to transition easily between working independently with a high degree of self-initiative and contributing as part of a team.
  • Excellent crisis intervention, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to working from a strength-based, youth development, and trauma-informed perspective.

Pay

$31–$41/hour (based on relevant post-licensure experience).

Schedule

17 hours/week (part-time), non-exempt salaried. This position requires staff to be onsite.
