About the Role

Claremont Hacienda is seeking a Safety and Security Technician to provide essential support to residents experiencing moderate to severe mental illness, including individuals under Murphy Conservatorships. This role works alongside a multidisciplinary clinical team to maintain a safe and structured environment by monitoring resident activity, promoting engagement, and using de-escalation techniques to support positive outcomes. You will serve as a liaison between residents and clinical staff while contributing to a calm, respectful, and therapeutic atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document regular safety rounds and visual checks on residents.
  • Monitor and supervise common areas, outdoor spaces, and patio access to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Intervene and redirect resident behaviors using verbal de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Act as a buffer between residents and staff by addressing concerns, preventing escalation, and supporting communication.
  • Assist in the implementation of therapeutic activities and structured programming.
  • Support residents in activities of daily living as needed while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams by reporting behavioral observations and concerns.
  • Uphold facility policies and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records and incident reporting systems.
  • Respond to behavioral crises and participate in code responses according to training and facility protocol.
  • Provide emotional support, consistency, and structure to residents in accordance with individualized care plans.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate or bachelor’s degree in psychology, human services, social work, or related field preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in a behavioral health, psychiatric, or related inpatient setting preferred.
  • ProACT, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), or similar de-escalation training preferred.
  • Knowledge of moderate to severe mental illness, behavioral interventions, and conservatorship dynamics, including Murphy Conservatorships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards in mental health care.
  • Strong observational, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Ability to maintain calm under pressure and respond effectively in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to act with patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.

Pay

$21–$23 per hour

Schedule

Full time

This position requires the successful completion of a background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screening as part of the hiring process.
