About the role
The Mental Health Program Assistant plays a crucial role in providing short-term safe, quality, and supportive residential services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. This position requires a person-centered approach and the implementation of the Illness Management and Recovery model.
Responsibilities
- Utilize the Illness Management and Recovery model to assist consumers in achieving independence, autonomy, personal responsibility, and personal control.
- Participate actively in professional growth and development, maintaining appropriate professional behavior and utilizing professional supervision.
- Provide transportation to consumers to achieve the goals of their service plan and utilize a state vehicle when assigned to a designated site.
Requirements
- Maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Meet the qualifications of the section 245I.04, subdivision 14, Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker.
- Knowledge of behavior modification theory/techniques, mental illness, therapeutic intervention techniques, and laws, rules, regulations, and policies governing treatment of mental illness and vulnerable adults.
- Ability to perform basic health care procedures, observe, interpret, and document client behaviors, read, write, and speak English, and interact with clients.
Preferred Qualifications
- Patient care experience within a mental health or behavioral health setting.
- Experience working in a hospital setting.

- Documentation of a verified service-connected disability rating of at least 30% for disabled veterans seeking noncompetitive appointment.
