About the role
The Office of Mental Health seeks a MHP II/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Team member to provide compassionate and accessible care to individuals and families in Horry, Georgetown, and Williamsburg Counties. This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DMHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health.
Responsibilities
- Provide assessment/counseling/interventions/treatment to patients with serious mental health illnesses, developmental disorders, and/or autism spectrum disorders.
- Ensure linkages for therapeutic needs to promote well-being for patients.
- Deliver caregiver coaching and family therapy to support skill development at home and in the community.
- Conduct intake and assessments, and develop treatment plans using appropriate tools and strategies.
- Use trauma-informed, non-coercive crisis de-escalation strategies.
- Develop and modify therapeutic materials to meet the cognitive, sensory, and communication needs of each patient.
- Ensure patients are seen according to Loc guidelines and address barriers to service, while confirming crisis staffing and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain patient care hours and documentation standards.
- Work closely with families, caregivers, case managers, school personnel, residential staff, ABA providers, and other treatment team members.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and provide input.
- Coordinate care to ensure consistency across settings.
- Complete documentation in accordance with Quality Improvement (QI) policies and services/contracts.
- Manage billing disallowances and keep them to a minimum.
- Write and produce outcome and progress summaries reflecting patient improvement.
- Adhere to objectives that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-limited.
- Adhere to Center, OMH, State, Federal, and Local compliance policies, procedures, and responsibilities.
- Report violations of laws regulating the provision of health care.
- Maintain licensure and certifications.
- Participate in ongoing professional development.
Requirements
- Master's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences.
- Two years' experience in a clinical setting.
- Must meet OMH Credentialing Requirements, including specific graduate coursework and clinical experience.
- Ability to lift up to forty (40) pounds, see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend, file, drive, and climb stairs.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families, and representatives of other professional disciplines.
- Knowledge of psychopathology and patient management within the behavioral setting, as well as knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by the public and private agencies.
- Experience providing direct patient care.
Qualifications
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
- Licensure preferred - professional counselor or social worker through South Carolina Labor, Licensing and Regulation Board with valid licensure.
