About the role

The Office of Mental Health at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) seeks a Mental Health Professional II - Adult Services. This position provides advanced clinical services to patients in Beaufort County and collaborates with local partners to support their wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced, evidence-based treatment to patients in the clinic and community setting.
  • Conduct mental health assessments, individual, group, and family therapy.
  • Offer crisis intervention, suicide screenings, and develop Personal Safety Plans.
  • Ensure patients receive timely services and address barriers to care.
  • Coordinate with families, caregivers, and other treatment team members.
  • Act as a Lead Clinician for the Beaufort Adult Team and other Treatment Teams.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to patient care.
  • Document services and contracts accurately, meet patient care hour standards, and adhere to compliance policies.
  • Maintain licensure and engage in professional development.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences, or a related field.
  • Professional experience in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clinical setting.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in South Carolina.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb, drive, lift, and file.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are preferred.
  • Sound theoretical knowledge of principles, methods, counseling practices, and procedures for diagnosing and treating behavioral, developmental, autistic, and mental disorders.
  • The ability to listen and understand, and effectively communicate information and ideas to others.
  • Knowledge of psychopathology and patient management within the behavioral health setting.
  • Knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by other public and private agencies.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals, families, and representatives of other professional disciplines.
